This film was originally made as visuals for "Ionisation" by Edgard Varese(1931) by Flat-e, as a part the London Sinfionetta show Warp works/20th Century masters in 2004.

Flat-e wanted to make the visuals into a self contained film and asked me to compose the new music . I had seen the piece at all stages of production; from the broken clocks on Brick lane market, to the flat peppered with dangerously tiny cogs, to the sold out Festival Hall. I joined Flat-e at the editing stage to compose the new music over a very intense three days.

We initially mapped out a structure that would suit the dynamic of the film and I began synthesizing all of the individual sounds. Every sound was made completely from raw synthesis as the film was being edited together. We were swapping audio and video parts the whole time so every sound could be specifically manipulated and could also affect the placement of edits. The music is made for the film and the film was cut to the music layer by layer so the result is unified. The challenge was turning details like dwwwrrr//boing//djjjjjk into actual sound.
